This step watches your Shopify store for any new order and kicks off the workflow the moment one is placed. It captures the complete order payload including the order number, customer name and email, order total, and every line item with its quantity, price, and any custom properties attached to it. No configuration is required — it fires automatically for every new order regardless of sales channel or order source.

Why this matters: This is the step that creates the actual Trello card. Without it, order data captured by the trigger has nowhere to go. Each card gives your team a structured, at-a-glance view of the order so nothing gets missed or manually re-entered.

This step creates a new Trello card populated with the order number, customer name and email, order total, and a line-by-line product breakdown including titles, quantities, prices, and any custom line item properties. Two fields need to be configured: select your Trello board in the field labeled "Select your Trello board" — this is the board where cards will appear — then select the specific list within that board in the field labeled "Select your Trello list," such as Orders to Fulfill or Incoming Orders. The card title is automatically set to the order number, and the full order details are pre-formatted in the card description.

Frequently asked questions

Will one card be created per order, or one card per product in the order?

One card is created per order, regardless of how many products are in it. All line items from the order are listed together inside the card description, so your team can see the full order at a glance on a single card.

How do I find my Trello board and list IDs if they don't appear in the dropdown?

If your board or list doesn't appear in the selector, make sure your Trello account is connected in MESA and that you have access to the board. You can also enter the board and list IDs manually — find them by opening the board in Trello, clicking a card, and appending .json to the board URL to see the raw data including all list IDs.

What happens if an order comes in with custom line item properties — like personalization or gift notes?

Custom line item properties are included automatically in the card description. The workflow loops through every property attached to each line item and appends the property name and value below the product details, so personalization instructions, engraving text, or any other custom fields show up exactly as the customer entered them.
