You need to customize the "What is your target audience?" field by replacing the placeholder text with your specific audience (like "home decor enthusiasts" or "fitness buffs"). The AI prompt is pre-configured to act as an ecommerce merchandising specialist and will generate titles without quotation marks for clean formatting. The temperature is set to 1 for creative variation while maintaining professional quality.

Approve or Decline the AI Response

Why this matters: This quality control step lets you review the AI-generated title before it goes live, ensuring it meets your brand standards and accurately represents your product.

You'll receive an email notification with the proposed title whenever a new product triggers the workflow, giving you the chance to accept or reject the AI's suggestion. Configure the "Which email should we notify" field with your preferred email address to receive these approval requests. If you accept, the workflow continues to update your product; if you reject, the original title remains unchanged. You can remove this approval step entirely once you're confident in the AI's output quality.

Once you approve the AI-generated title, this step automatically updates your Shopify product with the new title using Shopify's API. The system targets the specific product that triggered the workflow and only updates the title field, leaving all other product details unchanged. This happens instantly after approval, so your new optimized title becomes live immediately. No configuration is needed since the product ID and title content are automatically pulled from previous steps.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this workflow for existing products that need better titles?
Currently, this workflow only triggers when new products are created. To improve existing product titles, you'd need to duplicate products (which creates new ones) or manually trigger the AI step for specific products through MESA's workflow testing feature.
What happens if the AI generates a title that's too long for Shopify?
Shopify allows product titles up to 255 characters, so the AI's 8-12 word guideline stays well within limits. However, if you customize the prompt to create longer titles, they may get truncated in search results or mobile displays, even though Shopify will accept them.
Does this work with products that have no description?
The AI needs product description content to generate meaningful titles. If you create products without descriptions, the AI will either generate generic titles or the workflow may fail at the AI step. Always add at least a basic description before creating products for best results.
